Sleep is the foundation to positive mental health and high performance. However, despite the fact that sleep is an instinctive ability, meaning we don’t need to learn how to sleep, many people struggle with sleep disorders ranging from insomnia to sleep apnoea.

Even those employees who don’t have a specific sleep disorder report struggling to switch off a busy mind, struggling to get to sleep, waking up during the night, not being able to sleep right through the night and relying on medication or alcohol in an attempt to get to sleep.

A lack of quality sleep has a direct impact on mental health and performance and without consistent restorative sleep, an individual’s ability to perform in the role is significantly compromised.

World Sleep Day on Friday 17th March is organised by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders.
