During my training in solution-focused psychotherapy and hypnotherapy, I spent over a year deep in theory. But once I was actually face-to-face with someone, especially someone in a highly emotional state, things got real. What we learn in theory doesn’t always translate to practice, especially when the real problem is often something deeper than what’s first presented.

This is why I believe that training for managers and mental health first-aiders should go beyond just delivering information – it needs to be practical, ongoing, and supportive.

Why Bite-Sized, Actionable Training Matters

One of the biggest challenges I see is when people are given too much theory and not enough practice. Without a way to consistently engage with what they’ve learned, managers are left with information they can’t apply effectively. The brain forms thousands of synaptic connections when we learn something new, but unless we revisit that knowledge, those connections fade. So instead of one massive training session, I believe in breaking things down – giving people manageable pieces they can absorb over time.
